Ingredients

  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg or pumpkin pie spice
  • 2 c. brown sugar
  • 2 eggs, well beaten
  • 3 c. all-purpose flour, sifted
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • 1 c. nuts, chopped

Preparation

  • Combine shortening, salt, vanilla, and nutmeg or pumpkin pie spice.
  • Add brown sugar gradually and cream well. Add beaten eggs and mix well. Sift flour with baking soda.
  • Add 1/2 of flour to creamed mixture, then add milk, then remaining flour and nuts, mixing well.
  • Drop from teaspoon on greased baking sheets.
  • Bake at 375 degrees 8 to 10 minutes. Keep in airtight container.
